The University of Toledo, a government-run college in Ohio, recently fired Crystal Dixon, associate vice president for human resources, after she wrote a guest column in the Toledo Free Press, in response to an earlier column decrying the state of homosexual rights in Ohio.

This isn’t terribly surprising, as it is pretty well established that there is a Soviet-style orthodoxy in effect at most American universities (even nominally Catholic ones).
